Abstract

This article examines the main methods and information technologies that are widely used in distance learning in educational institutions of Ukraine and analyzes their capabilities for participants in the educational process, advantages and disadvantages. Information technologies for distance learning include various platforms and software tools to help organize the distance learning process (learning management systems (LMS), video conferencing platforms, tools for creating and sharing educational materials, assessment and testing tools, collaboration tools, cloud technologies). These technologies allow participants in the educational process to communicate with each other, access educational materials and tests, evaluate results and coordinate work. A separate review of the opportunities that the use of artificial intelligence in modern educational platforms can offer to optimize the educational process is conducted. This technology, relevant today, analyzes students’ success, which includes their academic progress, behavior, activity in seminars, interaction with educational content and final grades to identify those students who will have high results and those who need help. Adaptive settings for each student create a personalized list of recommendations for additional materials based on performance analysis or, conversely, accelerated transition to more complex topics becomes available. Artificial intelligence is actively used in educational platforms for automatic assessment of works sent by students, tests, providing feedback and even for automatic hints for completing tasks. Because of artificial intelligence, it has become easier for tutors to identify those students who often miss classes or submit homework late and therefore fall behind the academic schedule. Built-in tools indicate possible risks for them in order to take preventive measures and prevent expulsion from the university.
